Making has always felt like an addiction, an obsession that is so potent that it clouds my better judgement. When the first lockdown was announced I knew I needed to remove myself from the city to escape the allure of the workshop. I stocked up my boat with supplies and headed to the outskirts of London. I was searching for something, I just needed to be moving to find it. After a few days of cruising, I discovered an abandoned warehouse.
I have always seen creativity as a type of adventure. In many respects they are the same, the exploriative quality drives you to discover something new and unseen. Yet often a maker remains static, bound to a space like a workshop or studio, where risk is managed and mediated. It was intoxicating to be making in a space that represented none of this security.
